Sam & the Black Seas

This was a proposal for an upcoming album of Sam & the Black Seas.  The best description of the symbolics of this cover was written by  Sam, the frontman of this band:

“I personally don’t believe in horoscopes or esoteric rituals, but I have to admit that the guy who gave me a tarot card reading a few years ago was spectacularly right. The day after our encounter, I wrote a note and tucked it into the collar of a dog. A few days later I received a text containing an inspiring invitation to leave everything behind and go to Australia. Travelling far helped me to get closer to myself through music. With the ocean as a backdrop and a studio on wheels as home, I began writing again and growing a burning desire to bring my music to life.”

Black Ponies

So much black around! This is a cover I made for a befriended band of mine: Black Ponies. Even ponies can dream about being awesome!
The full album record still in progress.

Leila

The name means “Dark-haired Beauty”. The name was used for a long time in Arab and Persian folklore, poetry and literature. It was my inspiration to make a series of drawings. The model was a friend of mine.

The Marriage of Heaven and Hell

These artworks were the part of my diploma in Illustration Studio and are my interpretation of William Blake’s “The Marriage of Heaven and Hell”. I illustrated some thoughts and quotations of this great English poet, painter and engraver.

I also wrote a short but concise thesis about this literary work, in which I tried to reconstruct Blake’s inspirations (derived mainly from the Bible), beliefs and symbols, referring also to his biography.

“Without Contraries is no progression. Attraction and Repulsion, Reason and Energy, Love and Hate, are necessary to Human existence.”
“How do you know but ev’ry Bird that cuts the airy way,
Is an immense world of delight, clos’d by your senses five?”
“The worship of God is, honouring His gifts in other men each according to his genius, and loving the greatest men best. Those who envy or calumniate great men hate God, for there is no other God.

“I saw no God, nor heard any, in a finite organical perception; but my senses discover’d the infinite in every thing, and as I was then perswaded, & remain confirm’d, that the voice of honest indignation is the voice of God, I cared not for consequences but wrote.”
“(…) and we so loved our God that we cursed in Hisname all the deities of surrounding nations, and asserted that they had rebelled.”
“If the doors of perception were cleansed every thing would appear to man as it is, infinite.
For man has closed himself up, till he sees all things thro’ narow chinks of his cavern.”

Academic sketches

Old ones, I created them as a part of my pre-academic training.

Dark Gate and other stories

These artworks were made in the drawing studio, in Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań, led by a great Professor Marek Zaborowski. All of them are made in pencil, and all are colossal – each about 2 metres long.

The technique and size of works required a lot of time, patience and determination, but spending time in the studio was also rewarding.

Seagoing Vessels

These artworks are as tiny as hand and were made at one of the open-air activities, just by the seaside. I took inspiration from sea views, coastal grass growing by the beaches and William Turner painting.
